Movies!

So we were just assigned our classes, and I'm teaching two sections of a "Movie class," which will be me showing American movies for them to listen to, interpret, learn from, etc...

I would LOVE to get movie ideas from everyone - Apparently I can show just about anything, so please fire your ideas at me. Anything you think would be good, anything you think I should avoid... Also I need to know relatively soon what movies I'm going to be showing, so anything you can think of off the top of your head...

The movie 'City Slickers' is loaded with dialogue, inuendo, humor. That may be a good one.
And 'Good Will Hunting' might be good as the setting is university campus, acadamia, etc.

Okay, how about Spider Man? And let's see: The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, how about Little Miss Sunshine? I don't know what their attitude toward sexual minorities is. How about Atonement? Chariots of Fire, Seabiscuit and/or Pharlap. The Dead Poets' Society? Ocean's 11, 12 and 13? When I get home I will send a bazillion more.

If they're OK about violence, I'd recommend Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. (Very violent, but filled with interesting dialogue.)

Star Wars (Episodes 4, 5, 6 and 1 would be my suggestions there.)

Sandlot

Airport (or whatever it's called...Tom Hanks stranded in an airport. And whatever the movie was where he was stranded on an island and named his volleyball Wilson.)

And some good ones have already been mentioned.

Sounds like fun.

Great blogging, Nick!
How about BAGHDAD CAFE - Lone Star- Gary Cooper in High Noon- Gregory Peck in To Kill A Mocking Bird-

And there are many documentaries that would be worth discussing. These I have mentioned are founded in American mores and race/gender/religious issues, and even a side bar of ageism. Of course no one can EXPLAIN these issues, but they all exist in our society and need to be out in plain sight. Let us know how it goes! Love, Grum
